Since 2005 Sveto Pejić and his tourist and catering company Villa Koruna in Mali Ston have been successful and good hosts. The art colony has always been held by the end of June or during the first week of July, gathering painters who have mainly graduated from the Art Academy in Široki Brijeg or who have received master of art degree at ARS SACRA founded within the same Academy for socializing. These are the young highly talented artists who are very likely to experience prosperous future which will be evidenced by the time very soon.
Such a selection of colony participants may at a first glance seem to be closing within a narrow specialized artistic poetics which may be characteristic for working in some academic surroundings, however, gathering of individuals who were during the studies at the above Academy spotted and recognized as strong and special personalities as well as gifted artists who are not only endowed with special talent for art and specific differences in art expression, but whose significant virtues are also seriousness, responsibility, hard-work and showing respect for work and human values arising from such virtues and for whom the colony has showed an extremely artistic width establishing itself fully in every aspect. The young artists are, namely, owing to their participation and work in the colony, enabled to stay here at the seaside for seven days, to show their artistic and specific abilities and knowledge acquired and socialize a little more with their colleagues from the Academy before (or after) some of them set off on a journey to life adventures and the hosts will, besides a pleasant socializing with talented young people and collecting a certain number of works of art whereas many of them have a significant artistic value, exhibiting the paintings painted in the colony, in the premises of the catering facility, have an opportunity to successfully accomplish very frequently mentioned and so desired and in practice very rarely implemented connection of tourist -catering activity and culture. This is the way how the co-existence of supply of local tourist and gastronomic special features and promotion of cultural and artistic values of the climatic area are recognized in the successful synergy of creative and practical work, and at the same time, either indirectly or by the way, it exerts a significant influence on aesthetic, art and artistic experience of guests who do not only enjoy the top dishes and wines, but may also enjoy the beauty and artistic value of exhibited paintings here.
Hosts' generosity and good will strongly motivates and fosters the colony participants to produce a serious and dedicated work, so an increased number of paintings painted on canvas or fiber board that during some annual stages were created, are not fascinating only because of a number of such paintings, but also the quality of some painted works of art. No matter how much the stay in the medieval town of Mali Ston impregnated with layered historic events and in the relaxed coastal and Mediterranean surrounding may be comfortable and luring, every participant has successfully used it not only as a working holiday, but also for creative facing the atmosphere which is for the majority of them a lot different from the atmosphere where they live and work every day, neither neglecting himself/herself nor his/her artistic poetics and practice. This is the reason why it is no wonder that attempting to find the best answers to creative challenges arising from newly created (modified) circumstances, a great number of works created during the work in the Ston and Mali Ston atmosphere has reached noticeable aesthetic and artistic values.
Besides Ante Kajinić, Professor at ALU in Široki Brijeg, who is in some way a spiritual leader of the colony, the following persons have during the last three years, some of them continuously and some of them only once or twice, participated: Branimir Bartulović, Cvita Bojić, Svetislav Cvetković, Andrijana Milnarić-Cvetković, Ćavar Ivana, Ćavar Miljana, Mladen Ivešić, Marijana Pažin-Ivešić, Iris Lobaš, Ivana Mikulić, Josip Mijić, Ivan, Perak, Silva Radić, Marko Šošić, Mario Šunjić and Toni Zlojo.
Each of them has during his/her work in the colony pained several works of art, so the actual exhibition virtually posted on the company web sites, obviously clarifies the artistic poetics of some authors, precisely emphasizing artistic values accomplished in the precise artistic classification of motives that some individuals were occupied with.
Since the purpose of the exhibition is sale of paintings, the sale of the presented paintings will bring about a collection of a part of funds that will be invested in the reconstruction of the pools in the nearby Ston salt pans. Every potential buyer will not only receive a work of art fitting the amount of money paid for it, but will due to his/her participation in this action help the reconstruction of already endangered valuable historic property, which has multiple importance in terms of monumental, heritage and cultural values not only in the local, but also in a wider social community.
